The Cree who once inhabited the area, called Lac du Bonnet "the resting
place of the waters" because this was the converging point of several rivers before they
flowed onward to Lake Winnipeg. The community is home to a diverse range of cultures
reflecting the nationalities early settlers including French, Ukrainian,
Metis, Polish, Serbian, Croation, Latvian, Swedish Norwegian, German, British and Dutch.
The town is a four seasons playground, with fishing, hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing and
snowmobiling close to town.
Annual events include the Farmer's Market (every Saturday in July and August),
The August Long Weekend Slo-Pitch Festival (with midway), the Christmas Craft Sale (first Saturday in December),
and the Lion's Club Canada Day Celebration (nd fireworks).
