[ Snow Route Parking Bans | Parking Lots ]

If you drive, convenient and reasonably priced parking is important. Unlike most large cities, parking in downtown Winnipeg is relatively plentiful. There is an abundance of parkades, lots and metered street parking in the city core. Outside the downtown core, parking (on-street and off) is generally plentiful (but be careful!).

Navigating downtown's one-way streets may seem like a challenge, but there's usually a lot on any street. At red lights, of course, you can make both right and left turns from a one-way onto another one-way street.

Snow Route Parking Bans
Because Winnipeg can get heavy snowfalls in the wintertime, the city needs cooperation from motorists to ensure the main streets are kept clear of snow. Special parking bans are in effect from December 1 to March 1, and you may find your car removed as well as the snow if you ignore these parking bans.

On sign-marked Snow Routes, parking is prohibited between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. After a heavy snowfall, the city may ban parking on Snow Routes between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m. These warnings are announced over the radio and typically lasts for one night.

The city may also declare a Residential Overnight Parking Ban, which means no parking between midnight and 6:00 a.m. on any street not designated as a Snow Route. These warnings are announced on the radio, and may be indefinite. As well, the city may have a temporary "no parking" ban to assist with special snow removal. Don't park near these signs during the times indicated.

Parking Lots
There are a lot of parking lots in downtown Winnipeg either on the surface, above ground, or underground. Many outdoor lots have electrical plug-ins (look for these in cold weather). Most office buildings have parking for their tenants and visitors. There are also several public parkades.
