Winnipeg Home Neighbourhoods: St Norbert
This community lies south of the Perimeter Highway, on the west bank of the Red River, but is only 30 minutes from downtown. St Norbert is predominantly French-speaking. This area is benefiting from the southward expansion of the city, though some riverfront homes are prone to seasonal flooding. St Norbert housing includes townhomes, duplexes and single family dwellings, and range in value from $45,00 to $200,000. West of Pembina Highway is the community of Richmond Lakes offering new affordably built housing, in the range of $75,00 to $125,000.
St Norbert is part of the Seine River School Division, and has an elementary, a middle and a secondary school.
The community has Grandmont Plaza, just south of the Perimeter highway and other small shops and services along Route 75 (Pembina Highway, south of the Perimeter). The nearest larger mall is at Pembina Village and Pembina Crossing, north of Pembina, straddling Bishop Grandin Blvd.
St Norbert is mainly rural in nature, being on the outer southern fringe of Winnipeg. The community has a recreation centre, with tennis, and an outdoor rink. Across the Perimeter Highway is an outdoor pool. For movies, head to Pembina Crossing, where there is a multiplex cinema.
