This theatre, located 4 blocks north of Portage and Main at Market Avenue, was built in 1914 by Alexander Pantages. The Playhouse stage welcomed many famous names in vaudeville including Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy and Bob Hope (who played his first game of golf in Winnipeg). This theatre is home to the Winnipeg Opera Company.
There 1345 reserved seats on Main Floor, Balcony, and Loges levels, and 1475 in total including general admission bench section at the back-centre. There is also a capacity to handle 300 for a banquet. For performers, there is a 68' by 31' permanent stage a 53' by 35' proscenium, 10 dressing rooms, 35 lines, and 240V electrical.
