The Manitoba Theatre Centre was founded in 1957 as Canada's first Englishlanguage regional theatre, and gained much critical acclaim. MTC has hosted the annual Winnipeg Fringe Festival since 1987, which attracts 30,000 people a year. The Manitoba Theatre Centre season hosts six plays which run from September to April, while the Winnipeg Fringe Festival takes place during the third week of July.
